BACKGROUND

A longtime Konica Minolta customer with two bizhub PRO C6500 Color Production Print Systems working at maximum capacity, Sorrento Mesa Printing (Sorrento Mesa) began researching means to expand its print fleet in 2012.  Looking to add cross-media marketing capabilities to its portfolio, the full-service commercial printer needed to accommodate growing volumes and address the specific demands of delivering these new solutions to customers. Sorrento Mesa was beyond pleased with the performance and reliability of the bizhub PRO C6500s, as well as Konica Minolta’s excellent customer service, so considering Konica Minolta’s newest digital presses was naturally part of the evaluation process. 

SOLUTION

It was ultimately the quality and range of capabilities on the Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C8000 Color Digital Press that made it the best option for Sorrento Mesa.  Having already installed the software and training to start selling cross-media solutions, Sorrento Mesa implemented the bizhub PRESS C8000 in October 2012 as the final step in the adoption process.  With the ability to handle duplexing on heavy card stock with uncompromised color quality, the color digital press allows Sorrento Mesa to offer variable data printing (VDP) on both the front and back of deliverables, a necessary function for successful cross-media marketing deliverables.

Color consistency and accuracy is always one of the most critical issues for a commercial printer and Sorrento Mesa is no exception.  Customers demand only the highest quality and often specifically request offset-quality color for print jobs.  Previously relying on the bizhub PRO C6500’s allowed the print company to deliver exceptional quality, but it was essentially the IDEAlliance Digital Press Certification of the bizhub PRESS C8000 that enabled Sorrento Mesa to guarantee customers the highest level of color matching and consistency in the digital market.  The IDEAlliance Digital Press Certification program validates that digital presses can consistently meet the production requirements of IDEAlliance's GRACoL® color reproduction specifications.  Familiar with the strict standards of quality necessary for the G7 qualification process when moving from offset to digital, Sorrento Mesa now felt confident that its cross-media solutions could truly rival offset printing.

To further validate the confidence in the printer’s quality, Sorrento Mesa owner Scott Cappel connected with a local photographer to compare the output quality of photographs printed on the Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C8000 to those printed on a leading competitive product in the market.  The output was indistinguishable and Cappel now uses those comparison images as sales tools.

BUSINESS IMPACT

Having moved a large volume of short run offset print work to digital with the help of the bizhub PRESS C8000, supported by the quality guarantee of the IDEAlliance Digital Press Certification, Sorrento Mesa now confidently promises customers the most superior digital output in the market.  The print company has expanded its services portfolio and looks forward to continued growth with the flexibility and added capabilities of the digital press technology.  Sorrento Mesa also continues to experience exceptional service from Konica Minolta that allows it to always stay at maximum capacity.
