As part of the imageSource Magazine peer review on "what worked" in 2013 and what to expect in 2014, Toshiba America Business Solutions President/CEO Scott Maccabe enlightens us on his perspective. Read his insightful forecast:
While our team looks forward to the New Year, I want to take a brief step back to review a terrific 2013. As a result of the diligent efforts of our independent dealers, TBS operations and Latin American distributors, all of Toshiba’s sales channels exceeded our financial goals, even in a still tepid economic environment. Our new Toshiba Managed Business Services (TMBS) organization completed its first full year of operations in the black and with some impressive wins under its belt.
We saw impressive growth in both color and MPS – trends we expect to continue in 2014. We saw that being brand agnostic works. Our collaborations with trusted partners were profitable and helped our dealers grow their businesses. And finally, we welcomed a plethora of new dealers to our world class network that we look forward to supporting with products, programs and incentives.
Recognizing that while overall print may be declining, but color printing is increasing, Toshiba is committed to providing our dealer network with top-notch products. Our latest color series won an array of awards including the American Business Awards “Best New B2B Product” and Better Buys for Business “Innovative Product of the Year” and “Editor’s Choice Award.”
Aside from developing award-winning products, Toshiba understands the importance of providing our dealers with customized MPS programs. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Toshiba’s award-winning Encompass program, we launched Encompass X. The updated program offers feature-rich elements such as real-time reporting, satellite views of customer locations, 3-D data cubes, more intuitive user interface, and customizable quotes.
In addition to MPS, mobility and security are two areas that I foresee to be high priority in 2014. To support these, Toshiba offers solutions enabling mobile print and capture from any Android or iOS device, as well as DRM for documents.
As our tagline “Leading Innovation” suggests, Toshiba is a company that is creating dynamic products and solutions to complement our dealers’ offerings. We understand that there is too little differentiation among products and services. To extend our heritage of innovation and provide dealers with a unique offering we launched the e-STUDIO306LP/RD 30 also known as the Eco MFP. This product is the world’s first MFP using erasable toner. With its unique design, it can reuse a single sheet of paper up to five times and reduce CO2 emissions by more than 50 percent.
Furthermore, the erasing unit sorts usable/unusable paper and can scan data to the network while erasing images from a page. Not only does the Eco MFP reduce the waste of paper itself, but is also reduces the amount of natural resources that would have been consumed to produce the paper.
To further create additional revenue streams for dealers, Toshiba launched its new digital signage brand, called Ellumina. Ellumina offerings include everything from interactive touch displays to large networked digital signage solutions. Ellumina solutions are completely customizable and allow for outside data integration making it perfect for key verticals such as retail, hospitality, education and more. Toshiba has built a program for dealers that is turnkey, easy to sell and allows them to go from managing customers’ print to managing their content.
Toshiba understands the importance of adapting to our changing market. We are committed to remaining ahead of the technology curve to provide our partners with the necessary products and services that will assist in the expansion of their businesses. In 2014 we will continue to leverage our core competencies and innovation and address market opportunities in collaboration with our most valuable partners – our dealers.
