STRV, which develops mobile and web apps for US startups, had record 201529 Feb, 2016
February 2016 - STRV, the Czech development studio which develops mobile and web apps for US startups, had a record 2015. The company grew from a 38-member team to 129 employees by the end of the year. The rapid growth also made it necessary for STRV to expand its office space and open a branch in Brno: at the end of last year the company’s two offices covered 12,000 sq ft. Its developers spent 143,000 hours coding, while its designers spent 15,000 hours designing UX and graphics. STRV employees flew more than 340,000 miles to meet with US clients and participate in the company’s Silicon Valley Camp training program.
STRV worked with 34 US clients last year, completing 84 diverse projects from mobile apps to sophisticated websites. STRV’s most important clients included Rich Uncles, a new US real estate investment platform; StereoCast, a service that brings live concert recordings to users; and FeeIn, a video streaming mobile app for US media giant Hallmark. David Semerad, STRV co-founder and CEO says “Last year was an absolute turning point for us. We succeeded in building up our reputation among US clients and achieving rapid workforce growth. We were transformed from a smallish studio into a major company that has a chance to become the leading development studio in the US, mainly thanks to the technological talent the Czech Republic possesses compared to the US.”
2016 to bring even faster growth
In 2016, STRV plans to continue with its rapid growth. “In April, we are due to move to a new 60,000 sq ft office in Prague’s Karlin district. We will continue to focus on recruiting new team members for our Prague and Brno offices, which will go hand-in-hand with further strengthening of the internal HR team. As we have done to date, we will focus on recruiting people from all over the world who can relocate to Prague or Brno for work. We now employ 17 different nationalities, and our team’s diversity has proved positive from both a personal and business perspective,” says Lubo Smid, STRV co-founder and COO.
Ordr.cz and Surge projects growing by several multiples
STRV also worked on and grew its in-house projects in 2015. Ordr.cz, an express meal delivery service in Prague under the leadership of CEO Jakub Plas, more than tripled the number of meals sold per month. In January 2015, Ordr.cz couriers distributed 2,200 meals. By the end of the year, its couriers were distributing around 7,500 meals. STRV cooperates on the project with Messenger, the Czech Republic’s biggest courier service.
The mobile app Surge was also successful, with Martin Stava, STRV’s chief technical officer and co-founder, taking charge of the project. In terms of numbers, Surge grew sixfold over the course of 2015. (The app was rebranded to Surge from Lavendr during the year). By December, the app had 340,000 unique users from all over the world. Surge is essentially a social network that is also one of the biggest mobile gay dating services in the world.
