TriMega’s Annual One-on-One Meeting NeXus 2015 a Resounding Success23 Apr, 2015
ROSEMONT, IL—(April 23, 2015): Executives from the nation’s leading office product dealers and key industry suppliers met last week, April 12 - 15 at the Westin Cape Coral Resort in Cape Coral, Florida for TriMega’s Annual One-on-One Meeting entitled “NeXus 2015” and the event was heralded a huge success.
The meeting brought together members of TriMega’s Contract Forum, the largest ‘direct-buy’ members of the group, including members of TriMega’s Dealer Supplier Collaborative Group (DSC), with invited leading suppliers for a series of individual “one-on-one” scheduled meetings and networking opportunities. The event also featured peer-to-peer dealer networking forums where groups of non-competing dealers met to discuss industry relevant topics, share best practices and generate new ideas.
“Once again, the format of Nexus provided an invaluable opportunity for our large dealer members and key suppliers to engage in constructive discussions about driving growth in our channel,” commented Mike Maggio, TriMega’s President. “It also allowed TriMega to connect with key industry players, to share new developments, progress on strategic initiatives and reaffirm our commitment to add value to the independent dealer community,” Maggio remarked.
NeXus 2015 also featured a keynote address entitled, “I think we just hit the accelerator” presented by Mike Rowsey CEO and Managing Director of Harbinger National. Among other things, his presentation discussed the possibility of the merger of Staples and Office Depot/Max and how these events will accelerate the need for change throughout the industry including vendors, buying groups, independent dealers, wholesalers and rep groups.
Finally NeXus included presentations of special dealer awards for outstanding support and growth in purchases of TriMega suppliers’ products during the past year, as well, key suppliers were recognized.
- Repeat winner, Capital Office Products (Daytona Beach, FL), Wist Office Products (Tempe, AZ) and Stinson’s Stationers (Bakersfield, CA – shown right) were recognized for the greatest dollar growth 2014 versus 2013.
- At the Finale Awards Dinner, Smead was presented with TriMega’s “Dealer’s Choice” Award, for 2014. Smead was voted Supplier of the Year by TriMega members for providing outstanding support during 2014 in the areas of field support, service, marketing, customer service and product innovation.
- In addition, Greg Fish, Executive Vice President, Purchasing for TriMega presented Tom Downs of Smead with a TriMega Tradition, an Eagle Award to recognize his industry achievement. Tom is retiring after nearly 38 years with the company – and serving TriMega for 18 of those years.
“Tom has been a very strong and consistent supporter of TriMega, and the IDC in general,” Fish said. “He is a true gentleman, whose professionalism is always balanced by a ready smile and a wry sense of humor. Tom will be sincerely missed, and we wish him the best for a long and happy retirement,” he commented.
- Earlier in the week, Greg and Ian Wist, also presented an Eagle Award to Ed Walper who recently retired from ImpactOffice, and served as one of the chief architects of TriMega’s Dealer Supplier Collaborative (DSC). For more than 10 years, Ed worked tirelessly to lead the DSC negotiations team in supplier programs that focused on keeping dealers competitive, through compliance. “Ed has maintained a reputation for integrity, as a ‘tough but fair” negotiator, and as a passionate industry supporter, as he worked for the best interests of independent dealers,” Fish commented.
“We are at a point where our industry can be characterized by a staggering amount of change,” commented Lyle Dabbert of Brown & Saenger and TriMega’s new Chairman of the Board. “This event was successful in helping us all embrace that change and work together for ways to leverage it for the benefit of independent dealers,” Dabbert concluded.
“With NeXus 2015 behind us, we turn our sights to 2016 and our first joint event with AOPD and DPCG, where we will combine our NeXus meeting with these other well-established and well-respected industry events,” stated Michael Morris, TriMega’s Executive Vice President of Marketing. “We are excited to be bringing these events together, to reduce redundancies, increase results and spark new collaboration opportunities,” Morris said.
More details regarding this joint 2016 event will be out in the months to come.
