Top 10 Content Types to Offer via Social (Media)

16 Jul, 2014

Jessica Maxwell, Associate Marketing Specialist for IDG says:

Social media is still a big focus area for marketers around the world, and for good reason – even for B2B companies. Our 2014 Social Media Research revealed that 86% of B2B IT buyers are currently using social media networks in their purchase decision process. That is a big number; especially considering that many are still unsure of the impact that social has on business.

Knowing that B2B IT decision makers use social media in their decision making process is great, but what should you do with that information? We asked over 200 B2B IT decision makers what type of content they want to have offered to them via social channels.

Here are the top 10:

1.Product/Service Reviews
2.Competitive Comparison
3.Product/Service Overview
4.Research Report
5.Case Study
6.PowerPoint Presentation
7.Product/Service Use Tutorial
8.Web or Email Advertisement
9.Product/Service Preview/Demonstration

If you’re a vendor and you aren’t using your social networks to offer these content types, you need to change your strategy because you’ll be left out of the purchase decision process and therefore will lose out on potential revenue.

Social networks are a place where promotional content is expected, but educational content is preferred. Knowing that buyers are looking for these ten content types on social networks should make you start thinking about what you can do to make this happen. In most cases, that means collaborating across different product teams in order to create the content that the buyers want and need in order to move along the buying cycle.
