Copier Shipment Hit Highest Peak in History
Japan Business Machine and Information System Industries Association (JBMIA)
recently announced copier shipment results in forth quarter for annual 2006
results. Shipment for copies increased to approx. $8.4 billion dollars (1,008.4
billion yen) exceeding one trillion yen for the first time ever. Unit shipment
have come close to four million units; just short of 1,700 units.
Shifting from monochrome to color has evolved further and color ratio in unit
shipment in the “domestic market” has become 51.6 percent, topping total
monochrome units (analog plus digital). In shipment amounts, color shares were
67.7 percent. Additionally, the MFP category (digital plus color), the color
units exceeded digital (monochrome) units in shipment in the previous quarter.
Color copiers are in good shape in the overseas market as well. In overseas
shipments (export plus triangle trade), color copiers renewed quarter records of
187,000 units (approx. $670 million dollars) in the fourth quarter. In
accordance, “total copiers” in the fourth quarter marked record shipment of
872,000 units and a record amount of about $1.5 billion dollars.
Canon Marketing Japan – Collaborates with Dainippon Screen on POD
Canon Marketing Japan (Canon MJ), entering into the Japanese domestic POD
market with the introduction of the 70 ppm color “ImagePress C7000VP” due this
spring, has agreed on collaboration in digital commercial printing area with
Dainippon Screen Mfg Media Technology Company, who is evaluated highly on image
conversion software and process management software in the printing industry.
Canon MJ will start selling Dainippon Screen’s PDP job submission system
“Riteportal” - supporting its devices, and will also sell image conversion
software “PDF Print Server” supporting RGB workflow bundled with the company’s
dedicated “ImagePress Server.” Canon MJ aims to accelerate by starting up POD
machines “ImagePress” in collaboration with Dainippon Screen, which has achieved
excellent results in the printing industry.
