Eight DECADES STRONG but who’s counting?
Back In 1921, James McShane II established McShane’s, an office supplies and
stationery store in Northwest Indiana, fostering a business built on
relationships, helping people with product and services to enhance their
business, and yes, personal lives. Four generations later, McShane’s still
believes that this ideal leads to success – for customers and the company.
As McShane’s celebrates 86 years of offering business products and solutions,
the company has become “a name you trust for the solutions you need.” In 2005,
McShane’s expanded into Northern Indiana acquiring their Mishawaka location.
Their continuing tradition to provide real value and superior service is evident
in their commitment to their clients and the community. What began in 1921 as a
simple stationery and printing company has grown to offer more than 30,000
office supplies, usually by next day, and office furniture and equipment from
well-known manufacturers such as Canon, Konica-Minolta, Muratec, KIP and HP.
McShane’s has been recognized locally for its success in the communities they
serve. Northwest Indiana Quarterly Business magazine readers selected McShane’s
as the “Best Place to Purchase Office Equipment” in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.
That is impressive. On a national level, McShane’s was chosen by OfficeDEALER
magazine as an “Elite Dealer” in 2005 and 2006, a prestigious award shared by
only 100 other dealers annually, nationwide. Additionally, Brian McShane,
President & CEO, and Mike Kidd, General Manager of the company, accepted an

expo in Las Vegas in March 2007. The award honored McShane’s for “Best use of
the Web.” Their website, www.mcshanes.com, was chosen over all other national
entries. The Perfect Image Awards represent excellence within selected
categories and are judged non-partially by the channels top industry experts and
Kelly McShane-Colby, McShane’s Director of Marketing, was responsible for
their website’s makeover in November 2006. Brian McShane added, “It had been a
few years since our last website reconstruction, and Kelly decided it was time
for a change. She brought me her ideas and I was very anxious for the change to
be implemented. I thought she did a remarkable job, and this award further
proves just how well she did. I am honored to think that, on a national level of
entries, that our website was chosen the best.”
Brian went on to explain why attending ITEX is important. “I think ITEX is
the premiere event for the office equipment and document solutions industry.
There is no other place or tradeshow where one can see the latest in
technological advancements, solution partnerships, marketing companies, buying
groups, and breakout sessions presented by such top industry experts, all at one
venue. The information is astounding and very useful. It is the best two and a
half days spent each year for my company.”
In an industry that grows at such a fast pace with continually advancing
technology, McShane’s has put more of an emphasis on attending such national
conferences as ITEX, as well as focusing more attention on its website. Being a
resourceful vendor to their clients is positioning them as a leader in their
area. “There are many opportunities available today to help our company grow;
making the right decisions with the right products is vital,” says Brian.
“McShane’s plans to expand its service offerings further with the addition of
total document solutions and print management,” emphasized Brian. “We came away
from the ITEX show with enough information, contacts, and dealer networking to
help us make very intelligent decisions regarding adding these new services. I
highly recommend attending this show each year, and to everyone in our
As McShane’s works to apply what was gained at ITEX, the company also
continues to focus on providing its clients the complete package of office
equipment plus supplies and furniture. With eight decades of experience,
McShane’s still looks forward to its future in document solutions.
