Focus on Partnering: MKG Imaging Solutions Delivers

Toronto-based MKG Imaging Solutions is one of North America’s largest
industry leaders and innovative manufacturer/marketers of compatible laser,
copier, fax, and ink jet cartridges. MKG has been a leading and successful
imaging solutions provider since it was founded in 1988. They are greatly
efficiency-driven and saw a real need to pioneer manufacturing systems that
encouraged recycling, becoming one of the first cartridge remanufacturers to
establish a dedicated design and engineering staff to focus on product
development, increasingly producing a number of quality, innovative products and

MKG proudly welcomes and encourages customers and guests to tour their large
manufacturing facilities, a 70,000 square foot plant and warehouse for customers
to learn firsthand how to better understand their production capabilities today.
They encourage dealers to observe the processes involved in designing, producing
and shipping them great product, not to mention the upscale customer service
support offered by MKG. The company is currently redefining their operation
systems to include a full Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Customer
Relationship Management/Manager (CRM) to assist in MRP for full quality control
(tracking toner lots, type, cartridge components, etc.) while widening web-based
ordering and shipping for  convenience.  What this will mean to MKG’s dealer
customers is real-time order-entry and tracking capabilities through an on-line
customer portal, making dealing with MKG extremely easy and efficient.

Besides the main facility in Toronto, MKG ships out of two warehouses in the
U.S. that are located on both the East and West Coasts to help expedite
shipments to regional customers. According to Robert Maier, General Manager for
MKG, “Our production capacity is producing about 130,000 or more cartridges per
month. Our customers are made up of large and small (SMBs) companies with
varying degrees of volume required, but our main goal is to treat them all
equally regardless of size, focusing on providing great customer service along
with our product. Our smaller orders of one to 100 can often have delivery in
less than three days.” 

MKG does not undercut or compete with their customers with a product line of
their own, but instead helps their customers’ business grow through customized
labeling, marketing, and support programs, with the result being repeat business
with established, loyal customers that lead to increasing MKG’s profitability.

Partners that profit

According to Maier and Marketing Manager Scott MacKenzie, the company has
built their successful business through a core strategy based on “private label”
or “private box.”  MKG manufactures product for clients’ whose own company’s
logo is placed on the shipping boxes, and accommodates the client with
additional sales and marketing networks to help bring their product to market.
This “private labeling” indicates that you won’t see MKG’s name on the product
but instead, the companies who sell their cartridges under their own brand
names. MKG also assists dealers with a wide range of packaging options and
advertising materials, as well as efficient technical and customer service

Dealing Direct

MKG Dealer Direct, established in 2003, is an extended support program whose
objective is to bring about more resources and better pricing to their clients
-- the dealer channel. According to MacKenzie, “This program helps dealers to
profitably compete with the national big box stores and large competitors. We
try to make it easier and cheaper for dealers by allowing them to deal directly
with a manufacturer that is dedicated to their success, thereby lowering their
overhead and increasing their profit margins.” 

Performance Driven

When asked about the importance of MKG achieving ISO 9001 registration, and
what that means to customers, Maier was emphatic in stating that the
certification holds their company to a higher standard than many of their
competitors, resulting in optimum quality products, controlled and measured
through a recognized process. The ISO requirement means “meeting certain
criteria” such as every cartridge being tested with the test procedure recorded
and receiving an electronic certification.  ISO’s standards set a high benchmark
which MKG’s products meet, resulting in top performing products, ensuring
optimum customer satisfaction.
