MPSA & ITEX - The Start of a Productive Relationship

MPSA & ITEX - The Start of a Productive Relationship

Among the many highlights of the recent and successful ITEX 2011 National
Expo & Conference, was the inaugural appearance of the Managed Print Services
Association (MPSA) at this event. The MPSA, as many are aware, is the
independent association dedicated to development of managed print services (MPS)
standards and industry guidelines, and uniting the various segments of the MPS

The goals of the MPSA are a natural fit with the objectives of the ITEX
community, as Conference conversations revealed. “At our welcome reception and
in our booth, we had non-stop discussions with both corporate executives and
individuals who have a strong interest in participating in the MPS opportunity,”
said Joe Barganier, president of the MPSA.

As Barganier made the rounds of the show floor and manned the MPSA booth, he
heard a number of attendees voice interest in having a place they could turn to
for on-going MPS knowledge-sharing and networking. “There are many strong MPS
information resources available, but there is also a need for a neutral place
for peers to interact and collaborate. MPS professionals welcome a common ground
that is not a fee-based service or tied to a specific for-profit organization.”

Who Is MPSA?

As dealers, vendors, manufacturers and end users now recognize, the managed
print services industry is a business model with too many advantages to be
ignored. It addresses longstanding issues that affect businesses across the
board. For many companies, use of documents as a business communication tool is
fundamental. Unfortunately, paper and electronic communications are frequently
fragmented, expensive, un-audited, and poorly managed.

The mission of the MPSA and its
members is to address these businesses and end-user office document management
needs and issues. At the same time, the MPSA community seeks to enhance the
growth, efficiency and profitability of the MPS segment through advocacy,
marketing, education, research, standards and a general, collaborative
community. This was a message that resonated with ITEX attendees.

“We were excited to sign on several new corporate members and a number of
individual members at the expo,” said Barganier. “We will be announcing those
new members in the very near future.”

Conference Track Dedicated to MPS Interests

The MPS model was a talking point not only in the booth, but on the conference
agenda as well, with its own educational track. The ITEX MPS Strategy Forum
track had 14 interesting and informative sessions covering MPS at all levels
(besides a sampling in the Power Hour tracks).

The sessions offered actionable formulas and strategies that help close print
management contracts. They also provided a good roadmap on how to identify,
sell, measure, train, service, and finance MPS for higher channel profits.

MPSA Reception: Special Networking

“The opportunity to spend face time with members of the association and keep
our finger on the pulse of the group and the industry was priceless,” said Kate
Kittner, Creative Services Manager, Tangent MTW and MPSA Director of Membership
Services. “The conference was a good alignment of our membership and the ITEX

The reception in particular was a great
networking opportunity for MPSA members and potential members. “The success of
this gathering was due in large part to our generous reception sponsors:
GreatAmerica (Platinum member), NewField IT (Standard member), and Oki (Platinum
member),” Kittner declared.

"The MPSA membership reception at ITEX was a
wonderful networking opportunity for the GreatAmerica team to share updates on
our MPS initiatives and find additional ways to partner with industry
organizations," said Jennie Fisher, Senior Vice President and General Manager of
the Office Equipment Group at GreatAmerica Leasing Corporation. "We value the
opportunity to spend time with the MPS thought leaders and innovators that are
part of the MPSA."

Year-round MPS Resource

As members of the ITEX community develop and expand on their MPS business
strategies, the MPSA will be a valuable year-round resource for staying in touch
with the MPS marketplace. “ITEX attendees that were introduced to the MPSA at
the conference can continue building their MPS expertise and reputation through
active participation in the only association dedicated to the MPS marketplace,”
said Barganier. “We were very pleased with the results of our first
participation at ITEX and look forward to maintaining those relationships we
started at the show.”

“The common goal of our association leadership and of our members is to build
a professional association that provides an un-biased environment for
collaboration online and occasionally in person,” said Barganier. “The ITEX
conference provided that ‘in-person’ opportunity that is so important at this
stage of our association’s growth.”
