Strong Dealership Infrastructure Set

Fresh from Equitrac having celebrated three decades in providing cost
recovery and print management solutions across the legal, professional,
education and general office/enterprise markets, the Florida-based company
launched into 2008 with a steady drumbeat of announcements of new product &
solution integrations & new global distribution & support partnerships.

Marking a strong growth pattern in 2007, Equitrac saw a resurgence in its
legal cost recovery market with the introduction of new printer/MFP management
and document capture solutions, and the rollout of its modern network solutions
platform and architecture across all product lines and markets. In the first
three months of this year, Equitrac’s multiple announcements of global
distribution and support partnerships were also complemented by a surge in
interest by partners and their customers in the print-waste management benefits
of Equitrac offerings, part of a growing trend toward “green” printing solutions
& sustainability practices in the office environment.

Steady Drumbeat of MFP partners

The company heralded (fall of ‘07) what would be a series of important
partnership announcements with leading MFP manufacturers: HP’s integration of
their latest Equitrac Office and Equitrac Express print tracking capabilities
for the general office and education markets via the HP Easy Select Control
Panel on the latest models of MFPs; and that Equitrac’s Professional 5 (EP5)
legal cost recovery solution would also be available as an embedded solution on
HP MFPs for users in the legal and professional marketplace.  The company hit
its stride with  a joint announcement with Ricoh on EP5 integration with Ricoh’s
advanced Embedded Software Architecture enabled Aficio line of MFPs.  At the
Legal IT trade show in London, Ricoh UK’s agreement to provide full-service
distribution,  support, and installation of EP5 in the legal, engineering and
consulting markets in the UK, marking the first major MFP provider to distribute
& support Equitrac products in Europe. In early March, the two again partnered
in North America, announcing at AIIM/OnDemand in Boston that Ricoh would offer
Equitrac Office & Equitrac Express solutions with the latest release of Ricoh
Print Copy & Control (PCC) version 3.1 throughout Ricoh’s entire distribution

Canon U.S.A., who has also enjoyed a longstanding partnership, made headlines
with Equitrac’s support for their advanced MEAP based imageRUNNER line of MFPs,
utilizing the collective “Office, Express  & Professional” offerings, via
touch-screen user interface & QWERTY keyboard.

Kyocera also announced an agreement for resale of Equitrac’s embedded
solutions for the KM-5050, KM-4050 and KM-3050 MFPs into Kyocera’s distribution
channel, enabling them to increase dealer opportunities by supporting a greater
range of value-added  solutions in the education and general office markets.

From Cost Recovery to ‘Triple A’

In setting Equitrac's future course, Equitrac CEO Michael Rich told a recent
meeting of industry media and analysts in Miami that one of the first steps the
company took was asking itself the simple question of “What business are we in?"
For many years, he said, Equitrac believed the answer to that question was “cost

“After all, we pioneered that  business 30 years ago when law firms were
seeking a highly accurate, versatile automated solution to charge-back clients
for copier output,” Rich said.

“But now,” he said, “Equitrac has moved well beyond cost management & has
expanded its product offerings to include authorization, authentication, and
accounting –  the Triple A.

Cost recovery is still the backbone of our business and will remain so for
some time, but the next generation of opportunities will be in a range of
applications that fit under that umbrella.”

Other new areas in which the company is moving include document capture,
expanding upon its partnerships and offerings for document & scanning capture
with Omtool,  NSi,  eCopy  and others. At LegalTech NY, they announced that
Equitrac Professional 5.2.2, the latest release of the award-winning legal cost
recovery & print management solution, now includes a new TouchPoint Document
Capture feature that offers personalized document scanning with full image
preview, enabling easy-to-use scan to folder, email & Scan-to-Me functionality.

Seeds of Print Management Bear Green Fruit

It has been the green seeds of print management that Equitrac began planting
in 2005 among its customer bases in the education, office, legal and
professional markets that have really begun to pay off in 2008, with a sharp
uptick of interest in the print-waste control and sustainability benefits of
Equitrac document management solutions.

“More and more, customers and partners are realizing that ‘green’ or
sustainability initiatives are part of their corporate objectives and aligned
with good financial management,” Rich said during their media and analysts
event. “Equitrac’s solutions to manage print waste and ensure efficient and
effective use of printing resources isn’t just good business, it’s good for the

The company’s End Print Waste campaign for K-12 & Higher Education
institutions launched in late-2005, coupled with a campaign in tandem with the
National Arbor Day Foundation to plant one live tree for every educational IT
administrator who logged on to view a demo at EndPrintWaste.com, was successful
in driving customer interest in the green benefits of products in the education

In the company’s core legal & professional verticals, Equitrac’s announced
support last year of the Wastewise and ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge
program, generating interest in the print-management benefits of their
“Professional” product among the growing number of  law firms looking for
sustainable office solutions.   The office & enterprise verticals have begun to
take note of the sustainability benefits of print-waste management offered by
Equitrac Office, along with the obvious cost-control benefits for the corporate
bottom line.

As Equitrac moves forward in 2008, they believe that given the current
widespread interest in sustainable business practices across the board, those
initial green seeds planted three years ago will now begin to really flourish.
