Canon U.S.A. and Kietra Corporation Partner on Healthcare Transaction Solutions
Kietra Corporation, an
innovator in physician-friendly technologies designed to significantly reduce
the cost of healthcare transactions, has licensed the Software Developers Kit
(SDK) for the proprietary Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP)
from Canon U.S.A., Inc. Kietra will develop embedded client software for Canon’s
line of multifunctional products (MFPs). Using Canon’s MEAP SDK, Kietra will
bring the document printing, scanning, and distribution power of Canon’s
imageRUNNER MFP to its own cost-reducing XPR medical billing solution.
The Kietra MEAP client application is being developed to meet the requirements of Kietra’s market, especially medical billers, medical laboratories and the small- to mid-sized clinician office. The solution will allow Kietra customers a simple and streamlined way to generate medical billing tickets and then scan completed patient encounter documents back into Kietra’s XPR healthcare transaction management system, simultaneously creating an automated and highly accurate billing process as well as a complete electronic medical record.
Kietra’s MEAP-based application will reside on the hard disk of the Canon imageRUNNER devices, eliminating the need for a separate scanner, printer, and fax devices and freeing valuable office space in cramped clinician and billing offices. The application will be presented on the full-color LCD control panel of the MEAP enabled imageRUNNER device, allowing users to print Kietra patient encounter forms, as well as upload completed medical forms for automated processing. The Canon and Kietra system transforms the traditional MFP into a powerful communications hub for generating, capturing, and distributing information, while helping to enhance the clinician’s revenue cycle and also facilitate creation of an electronic medical record.
The Canon MEAP technology is expected to be available with Kietra products in late 2006 or early 2007.
