Canon U.S.A. Introduces Its First Digital Personal Copiers
Canon U.S.A. Inc., the Year 2000 U.S. market share leader for PC Copiers, announced the upcoming availability of its first two digital personal copiers, the PC1080F and the PC1060.
Scheduled to begin shipping during the fourth quarter of this year, the PC1080F and PC1060 represent examples of Canon's promise to expand its competitively priced digital products into the Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) market through national retailers. The Canon PC1060 has an estimated street price of $699 while the Canon PC1080F is expected to sell for $799.
The Canon PC1080F and PC1060 incorporate Canon technology and new features that will help enhance SOHO customers' productivity. Employing Canon's exclusive Single Cartridge System, which contains the drum, development unit and toner in one easily replaceable cartridge, and digital laser copying technology, the PC1080F and PC1060 provide quality black and white output of up to 1200x600 dpi at an economical $.03 per copy. Both devices can accept originals up to legal size and reproduce letter-size documents at 13 copies-per-minute (cpm) and legal-size documents at 10 cpm. Digital technology, through the touch of a single button, facilitates collating of multi-page documents. The two copiers also feature an efficient 30-sheet automatic document feeder, a 500-sheet front-loading paper cassette and a 100-sheet multi-purpose tray that accepts a variety of media including bond, plain and colored paper, transparencies, labels and envelopes.
The Canon PC1080F includes G3 fax capability, allowing users to transmit documents at modem speeds as high as 14400 bps -- approximately 6 seconds-per-page. The PC1080F allows two types of faxing: through the automatic document feeder or directly from the platen for books, magazines or non-standard size documents. Canon's newest PC Copier also features one-touch automatic dialing with speed dialing (12 destinations), group dialing (111 destinations) and automatic redialing.
The PC1080F and PC1060 use the Canon L50 cartridge which yields approximately 5,000 copies at 5% print density. A full Canon L50 cartridge is shipped with each copier. Canon provides a three-year limited warranty on the PC1080F/PC1060 with first year-on-site service.
