DocSTAR Software Integrates Image and PDF Document Support DocSTAR Software Integrates Image and PDF Document Support

DocSTAR, a document imaging solutions company, announced support for Adobe PDF files in the latest version of DocSTAR.

"PDF files are widely used in insurance and other industries. DocSTAR can now store these files in their native format, rather than converting them to TIFF files" said Ira Whitman, DocSTAR's chief technology officer. "As a result, DocSTAR is taking the next step beyond document imaging and into content management."

DocSTAR Software, Version 3.3 includes:

Adobe PDF Support

PDF documents can now be easily imported into DocSTAR, saved, emailed, and also filed and retrieved in their native format. PDF image files, whether created by a digital copier or scanner, can be treated very much like other scanned documents. Other PDF files such as those created by Adobe Acrobat or other programs can be stored and filed, optionally with full-text indexing.

Image files and PDF's can be dragged and dropped on the DocSTAR icon to launch the Import function for even faster importing. PDFs can be used in both Auto and Manual File modes. Also, images within PDFs can be processed with OCR and the text content extracted for use in filing.

Also, DocSTAR 3.3 allows documents stored in any format to be emailed as PDF files. PDF files are universally viewable and are preferred by many email recipients.

Filing Enhancement

Version 3.3 also adds new features that improve filing flexibility. A new "select text" filing option can extract a portion of text using a keyword. Thus, if an Invoice is being filed, it can recognize the keywords "Order Number" and capture the number that follows to file the document.

Improved Ease-Of-Use

To improve user friendliness for technicians and administrators, the system setup has been expanded to allow for configuration and set-up of a two-tier filing device and the Fax Server to occur all in one step during the setup function. The start-up account for the Host Service can be changed from the Auto Import Screen within the DocSTAR Admin program.

The auto import setup has been expanded to allow up to ten (10) import paths. Each auto import path can specify a default security class, template and folder for documents imported on that path. This is a great benefit to companies using digital copiers or multi-function products as scanners.

New user preferences allow additional sorting selections when retrieving documents for 'Created Date' and 'Modified Date', replacing the 'Most Recent' option. And new context sensitive menus are now available in retrieve, browse and in the inbox allowing users to select a document, right click-it, and then view a menu appropriate for the selected documents.

More Powerful Integration

Version 3.3 brings a new feature to DocSTAR's optional DataLink module that enhances integration with 3rd party software. With 3.3, DataLink users can search for and select a client, policy, invoice, or other record in a 3rd party database, rather than having to type in a unique identifier, like a client code.

DocSTAR Version 3.3 is available immediately through authorized DocSTAR Business Partners. It will come standard with all new imaging systems, and upgrades to eligible installed products will be offered through the DocSTAR SoftCare licensing program or individually.

Optional module enhancements are also available with the release of Version 3.3. These modules include: DataLink, Barcode, WebView, Attaché, and the TAM Integration module. For more information on these modules, visit www.docstar.com.
