Document Security Systems to Introduce Bar Code Copy Protection Technology

ROCHESTER, NY – Document Security Systems, Inc. will introduce a bar code printing method it has developed for consumer products and tickets that protects the bar code from duplication, forgery and counterfeiting.

According to a front page Wall Street Journal article published on October 25, 2006, criminals are counterfeiting bar codes on lower priced merchandise and affixing them to higher priced merchandise. They then sell the higher priced merchandise on the internet for its correct or true value thus creating a substantial profit. DSS has developed a printing method to prevent the copying or scanning of the bar code as well as giving the retail store the ability to quickly verify its authenticity.

Mr. Patrick White, Chairman, CEO and founder of DSS, commented, “We have an easily implementable printing solution for this costly and growing problem. Bar Code forgery is spiraling out of control as retail losses are now rising to the $40 billion per year level. Our system can be printed as part of the normal package printing process and would stop the criminal from being able to duplicate, forge copy or scan an authentic bar code.

DSS will shortly begin presenting its new bar code protection system to some of the largest consumer packaging companies in the world.
