eCopy Second Generation ShareScan OP
eCopy, Inc., an innovative provider of document distribution and integration solutions, today announced the availability of Version 2.0 of eCopy ShareScan OP (Open Platform) for Canon’s MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER multifunctional peripherals (MFPs). eCopy ShareScan OP V2.0 enables organizations to easily add color documents, as well as black and white, to their information lifecycle by scanning them directly into their document management systems, e-mail, and other enterprise applications such as SAP, Oracle, and Siebel.
“The U.S. market for color laser hardcopy devices, with a 20 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2003-2008, is growing at ten times the rate of the comparable U.S. black-and-white market over the same period,” said Keith Kmetz, program director, Hardcopy Peripherals Solutions and Services at IDC. “As organizations make the decision to move to color capable devices, there is more to consider than just color document output capabilities. The impact of scanning and distributing large color files over the network is an important consideration.”
eCopy’s Xpert Compression capability typically compresses scanned color documents by 99 percent of their original size, resulting in file sizes that can be easily transmitted over the network, digitally stored, and printed with superb text and image quality. In addition, eCopy Connector software provides native integration between eCopy ShareScan OP 2.0 and commonly used document management systems, for example, EMC Documentum, Open Text Livelink, and Interwoven Worksite. This provides users with a robust, yet intuitive interface at the MFP to their document management server. It also ensures that changes to the document management system server are updated in real-time at the MFP, making document management from the copier as efficient as from the desktop.
“There is a growing need to scan color documents directly to document management and other enterprise systems,” said Tim Corkery, eCopy senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Support. “eCopy ShareScan OP 2.0 and Connector software provides direct access to enterprise content management systems from the touch screen of the Canon MFP, thereby extending the benefits of these systems to information that originates on paper.”
An optional feature supported by eCopy ShareScan OP V2.0 is Bates Numbering. When enabled, the feature automatically adds a Bates Number to each scanned page. It provides a uniform method for law firms and other organizations to refer to and track documents and pages by number rather than name.
Other enhancements to eCopy ShareScan OP V2.0 include:
Access to Microsoft Exchange Personal Contacts at the Canon imageRUNNER.
Xpert Compression for reducing raw image file sizes by 99 percent.
Support for the recently introduced Canon MEAP compatible imageRUNNERs, including the color C3220 and 2270, 2870, 3570, and 4570.
One click scan distribution to multiple destinations.
The first generation of eCopy ShareScan OP, announced in March 2004, was the first commercial software application available for Canon’s Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP). The application software transformed Canon’s MEAP-enabled imageRUNNERs into information hubs by integrating hardcopy documents directly into the workflow of critical business processes, such as reporting, administration, document management, financials, human resources, and customer management. Using eCopy, organizations can provide open access to scanning that connects to enterprise applications, such as document management, e-mail, and fax, for low-cost, easy, instantaneous distribution and management of digital copies of paper documents.
Availability and Pricing
eCopy ShareScan OP 2.0 is available for all MEAP-enabled Canon imageRUNNERs. The suggested list price for the software starts at $2,995 per device and includes a 10-user license for eCopy Desktop software. The addition of Bates Numbering capability is $1,495 per device.
