Canon iRC2380i Offers Remarkable Color Print Booklet Productivity
The Canon iRC2380i has earned BLI’s Spring 2008 “Pick” award for “Outstanding Segment 2 Business Color MFP” because of its excellent ease of use and scan functionality and very good reliability and multitasking capabilities.
Providing output at 23 ppm in both black and color, the iRC2380i proved to be a highly reliable model in BLI’s rigorous two-month evaluation, completing its 100,000-impression durability test without requiring any service calls and misfeeding just three times for a misfeed rate of one per 33,333 impressions.
“Noteworthy about this model is its amazing performance in BLI’s booklet print productivity tests,” said David Sweetnam, BLI European lab and research manager. In both black and color modes, this model exceeded its 23-ppm speed at 25.4 ppm and 24.5 ppm, respectively. This unit also had above average color copier efficiency in all modes evaluated—1:1, 1:2 and 2:2—when compared with competitive models. Color and black print efficiency when using the PostScript driver was also above average. In fact, 1:2 color print efficiency was the highest for models tested.”
Konica Minolta bizhub C353 Delivers Color All Around
Very good color image quality, color scanning and a new large full-color color touch screen were just some of the winning attributes that helped distinguish the Konica Minolta bizhub C353 from the competition, earning it a Spring 2008 BLI “Pick” for “Outstanding Segment 3 Business Color MFP.” Built around an all-new engine that delivers a rated speed of 35 ppm in both color and monochrome, the bizhub C353 also features a small footprint and flexible scanning at up to 70 originals per minute.
“The bizhub C353 was a standout in our monochrome and color productivity tests, turning in above-average throughput across the board,” said Pete Emory, BLI’s manager of lab testing. “It was also highly reliable, requiring no service and misfeeding just one time in our 100,000-impression durability test.” The bizhub C353 is also priced 10 percent below the average price for similarly equipped business color models in its speed range, making it an outstanding value for small workgroups.
“Continuing the momentum of our three Fall 2007 ‘Pick of the Year’ awards, we are honored that BLI recognized another product offering in our next-generation of color office systems—the bizhub C353—for its Spring 2008 ‘Picks,’” said Kevin Kern, vice president of marketing for Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. “With advanced network features and high-quality output capabilities, the bizhub C353 provides a powerful combination of speed, reliability, security and reduced cost of ownership in a compact footprint.”
Xerox Wins for Aggressively Priced Color Device
For workgroups that need occasional color output but can’t justify the expense of a typical Segment 3 color MFP, Xerox offers its WorkCentre 7242. With a rated engine speed of 40 ppm black/10 ppm color, the WorkCentre 7242 is priced nearly 40 percent below the average of similarly equipped models that feature a faster, single-pass color engine. That fact, along with its outstanding black and color output quality and strong showing on the vast majority of areas BLI tested, have earned it a Spring 2008 “Pick” as “Outstanding Convenience Color MFP.”
“You’re getting phenomenal image quality at an unbelievable price,” said BLI Managing Editor Daria Hoffman. “The WorkCentre 7242 puts color within reach of offices that thought they couldn’t afford a color MFP.” The WorkCentre 7242 earned ratings of Excellent or Very Good in every image quality area BLI technicians evaluate, and its color consistency over the course of testing was also outstanding.
“The WorkCentre 7242 color multifunction system delivers powerful scanning features, superior black-and-white productivity and exceptional color quality to small businesses and workgroups,” said Leah Quesada, director of product marketing, Xerox Office Group. “The ‘Pick’ award in the Convenience Color MFP category is evidence of our commitment to provide customers with advanced features at an affordable price.”
Ricoh Doesn’t Lose Sight of Monochrome Market
Among new 31- to 40-ppm monochrome MFPs BLI tested since the start of the year, the best was the Ricoh Aficio MP 3350 Series, which garnered a Spring 2008 BLI “Pick” for “Outstanding Segment 3 Monochrome MFP.” The 35-ppm Aficio MP 3350 Series, as tested in its SPF configuration, delivered excellent reliability in BLI’s 100,000-impression durability test, as well as top marks for print productivity, ease of use and security.
“The clarity of the Ricoh color touch-screen panel is superior,” noted Pete
Emory, BLI’s manager of lab testing. “You can also program up to six functions
and have them as one-touch keys on the main screen, and the scan to hard drive
feature shows a thumbnail preview of the scanned job right on the control
“We are honored that BLI recognized our Aficio MP 3350 Series with the Spring 2008 ‘Pick’ award for its ability to address the growing demand for efficient imaging solutions,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president of marketing for Ricoh Americas Corporation. “This acknowledgment from the leading office-equipment testing lab further supports our mission to constantly strive to be at the forefront of the industry, and to serve our customers to the best of our ability.”
Available in Aficio MP 3350B and Aficio MP 3350SP configurations as well, the device is also sold as the Lanier LD433 Series and Savin 9033 Series, which share the “Pick” honor.
Ricoh Aficio MP 2550 Series Features Excellent Reliability and Print
Excelling in a number of performance aspects evaluated during BLI’s demanding two-month evaluation, including reliability, ease of use and print productivity, the Ricoh Aficio MP 2550 Series has been selected to receive BLI’s Spring 2008 “Pick” for “Outstanding Segment 2 Monochrome MFP.”
“The Ricoh Aficio MP 2550 not only met the demands of every test it was subjected to, but also exceeded them to give an above average performance in virtually every category rated,” said BLI’s Emory.
An outstanding overall performer, this 25-ppm model, as tested in its SPF configuration, completed BLI’s 100,000-impression durability test without requiring any service calls and misfeeding just five times for a misfeed rate of one per 20,000 impressions.
The unit’s print productivity was also head-and-shoulders above the competition, turning out performances that were among the best for models tested when using the PCL driver. The Aficio MP 2550SPF, which provides an excellent set of security features, also proved very easy to use via its highly customizable full-color touch screen.
Also helping the Aficio MP 2550SPF to earn this honor are its very good scanning capabilities, including color scanning—rarely found among monochrome units in this speed range—and the ability to display a preview of scanned and stored documents on the control panel.
In addition, all aspects of performance regarding network connectivity, including ease of network setup, print drivers and feedback to workstations, received high marks.
"We are extremely pleased that the Aficio MP 2550 has won BLI's 'Pick' for ‘Outstanding Segment 2 Monochrome MFP,’" said Ricoh’s Nonaka. "Being recognized by an industry leader like BLI only helps further validate that Ricoh is providing products that offer excellent quality while improving our customers' bottom line."
Available in Aficio MP 2550B and Aficio MP 2550SP configurations as well, the device is also sold as the Lanier LD425 Series and Savin 9025 Series, which share the “Pick” honor.
