Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation Donation Ensures Smooth Ride For Autistic Children in Southeastern Wisconsin
MADISON, WI (July 24, 2008) – The Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation, organized by four employee volunteers of digital office equipment dealership Gordon Flesch Company, donated $5,000 to the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin (ASSEW) on July 16. The donation will pay for five children to attend the “Lose the Training Wheels” summer day camp sponsored by ASSEW.
Founded in 1976, ASSEW supports families and individuals dealing with autism spectrum disorders through information, research, education and training. The society partnered with the “Lose the Training Wheels” organization to host a five-day summer camp for 25 children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Camp attendees learn to ride bikes with the help of adapted bikes and individualized instruction.
“Bike riding is an important life skill that opens doors for children with developmental disabilities,” said Emily Levine, executive director for ASSEW. “The donation from the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation will help children with disabilities including autism and Down Syndrome gain independence and learn about lifelong physical fitness.”
Remaining true to the company vision to “serve the communities where we work and live,” the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation, Inc. has donated more than $800,000 to various charities and organizations in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin since its inception in 2002. Each year, grants totaling $100,000 are awarded throughout the communities where the Gordon Flesch Company does business.
“The creation of the Charitable Foundation formalized a spirit of generosity that has been part of the Gordon Flesch Company culture since the beginning,” said Ann Myers, president of the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation. “It is a reflection of the company’s awareness that we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
