InfoTrends Forecasts Business Inkjet a Bright Spot for Hardware Growth
Weymouth, MA (January 6, 2011) - InfoTrends is forecasting a decline in overall hardware revenues through 2014. However, it is not all doom and gloom. Office color placements are expected to continue to grow throughout the forecast period, both for laser and ink-based devices. The total office view for color devices excluding consumer inkjet, POD, and Impact segments is quite promising, growing at a 6.1% CAGR.
Meanwhile, the total U.S. business inkjet market is expected to increase by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.8% through 2014 offering a bright spot of opportunity to hardware vendors.“ Whether it is based on liquid ink or solid ink, the inkjet imaging platform offers a number of compelling attributes to address barriers limiting the penetration of color in the office,” commented Robert Palmer Director of InfoTrends Digital Peripherals Consulting Service. “Namely, ink-based systems could deliver color at lower operating costs, which is without question the leading customer concern when it comes to the production of color pages. As a result, we expect ink-based technologies to gain further traction through the forecast period.”
“Inkjet technologies not only bring the promise of lower operating costs, but also lower acquisition prices (compared to color laser technology). This is a value proposition that resonates with small businesses looking for affordable quality color devices. In addition, page-wide inkjet technology will further improve the price and performance value of inkjet, which will result in the increased penetration of ink-based printers and MFPs in the traditional workgroup space,” continued Palmer.
