Konica Receives Industry Accolades

Konica Business Technologies, Inc. (KBT), the innovation leader in digital imaging solutions and a subsidiary of Konica Corporation, announced that two of its products, the Konica 7020 Workgroup Document System(TM) and the Konica Fax 9930 Multifunction System(TM), both received ``Picks of the Year'' for 2001 from Buyer's Laboratory, Inc. (BLI), the nation's leading independent office products testing laboratory.

According to BLI's Web site, the organization, independent from advertising dollars, is able to conduct unbiased tests on more than 100 different office products per year. At the end of each testing period, a report is produced detailing each product's capabilities including reliability, efficiency, cost and image quality. Each year, BLI gives special recognition with its ``Picks of the Year'' awards to those products that were most notably outstanding in their specific performance category. Both the Konica 7020 and the Konica 9930 underwent a three-month, rigorous analysis prior to receiving this acknowledgement.

``Winning `Pick of the Year' awards from BLI is strong proof that Konica continues to produce superior office products,'' said Kevin Kern, vice president, product development and support, KBT. ``The 7020 and 9930 were recognized as being among the best in their class after surviving BLI's tough testing procedures.''

The Konica 7020 Workgroup Document System(TM)

The Konica 7020 Workgroup Document System won ``Pick of the Year'' award for ``Outstanding Segment 1 Digital Copier.'' A 20 page-per-minute digital copier with print, fax and scan options, the 7020 is designed to meet mid-to small-sized workgroups' demands for multifunctionality. BLI tested the product as a standalone copier and found that its efficiency rates and feature set were ``far superior'' to the other units that were tested in its class. The 7020 underwent a 150,000-impression durability test and produced its first 100,000 impressions with no service necessary.

BLI reported the 7020 as one of the most versatile copiers tested, offering a large number of features not typically associated with other units in its class. Commendable features BLI recognized included: the 7020's ability to program ahead and pre-screen up to four additional copying jobs, while a copy job is being produced; the unit's standard 32-MB RAM Memory and maximum memory capacity upgradeable to 288 MB; an optional finisher; standard duplexing, high impressions-per-gram tested toner yield and a large toner capacity; 50-sheet stack-feed bypass tray; signature booklet creation; and more.

Additionally, BLI noted that the most impressive aspect of the 7020 was its overall efficiency, and was found to be the most efficient copier out of any segment. In summary, BLI found that the 7020 possesses capabilities found in faster units, for far less money. BLI's report on the 7020 stated, ``Not only is the 7020 the most efficient copier among previously tested Segment 1 copiers, it is also the most efficient copier tested in any segment.''

The Konica Fax 9930 Multifunction System(TM)

The Konica Fax 9930 Multifunctional System won BLI's ``Pick of the Year'' for ``Outstanding High-Volume Fax Machine.'' An LED-array unit, the 9930 was highly recommended by BLI for its overall performance, compact size and productivity-enhancing features and options that work well for high-volume faxing environments. A 10-page-per-minute machine, the 9930 offers small and large workgroups a convenient variety of office functions including full facsimile, print, copy, scan, PC fax send and receive, as well as network and email capabilities, all in a small footprint.

Equipped with a 33.6-Kbps modem and JBIG compression, the 9930 tested without any malfunctioning and was issued BLI's ``Highest Rating'' in all areas of copy quality. With a 12.5-MB standard memory, BLI was also impressed by the 9930's memory capacity. Other features favored by BLI included: a QWERTY keypad, and easy-to-use autodial numbers available from the PC with optional JetSuite Pro Connectivity® software that allows users to input information from a computer keyboard, rather than the machine's control panel. Another notable capability found by BLI is that the 9930 allows users to send faxes via the Internet and avoid long-distance phone costs typically associated with faxes. This feature is made available through an optional T.37 LAN Network/Internet Fax Kit and T.38 Internet Protocol Kit.

BLI stated, ``Furthermore, the Konica FAX 9930's overall cost per reception, while comparable to that of other LED units tested, was low compared with that of laser fax machines tested. Moreover, the Konica FAX 9930 dials the destination and begins transmitting while pages are scanned to memory and, unlike most other fax machines, when the size of the file exceeds memory capacity, the unit scans additional pages into memory, as memory becomes available.''

Pricing and Availability

Both the 7020 and the 9930 are available through Konica's North American direct sales, authorized dealer and reseller network. The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 9930 is $3,295 and the 7020 is $5,640.
