Newpoint Upgrades WallHugger Surge Protector

Power Sentry, a manufacturer and distributor of surge protectors, computer accessories and USB products, has announced the availability of its newest generation of Newpoint WallHugger surge protectors. The products feature the company’s new V3 technology. The company will be showcasing its products at the 2005 International CES tradeshow from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas.

“Our new V3 technology far outpaces the performance and protection offered by current MOV-technology alternatives,” said Kris Lichtscheidl, Senior Product Manager for Power Management Products at Newpoint. “The newest WallHugger surge protectors extend protection capacity, as well as improving heat dissipation substantially, resulting in a safer, longer-lasting surge protector.”

The versatile slim-line design of the unit allows it to be positioned as a tower against a wall or flat on a desktop, depending upon user preference and space constraints. All Wallhugger surge protectors have integrated child-safe outlets and wider spaced outlets to accommodate adapter plugs. Meanwhile, the slide-out extender bar provides four additional outlets which can be stored conveniently within the unit when not in use. Dual cord catchers allow for cords to be easily organized in order to further extend the user workspace.

WallHugger is designed to integrate a variety of features aimed at providing consumers with unmatched quality and extended product life. The integrated phone line sidactor protection enhances performance and reliability while the shielded coaxial line protection and gold connectors offer superior data transmission and noise reduction. The surge protectors also feature ClearConnect Power Conditioning EMI/RFI noise filtration.

The WallHugger family includes six products that are rated from 2520 to 4000 joules (depending on the model), compared to 1500 to 3600 joules in previous generation products. The premium model provides 10 outlets, plus the four outlets on the extender bar. The most basic model, meanwhile, offers 7 outlets. The WallHugger TM products carry a connected equipment warranty of up to $250,000 to $500,000. The products are priced at $49.99 to $99.99 MSRP.

Newpoint’s Power Blocker 2 Revolutionized Surge Protection

Power Sentry has also announced that its Newpoint branded Power Blocker 2 surge protectors are now available. The company will be showcasing the new product, which features patented circuit-breaker technology, at the 2005 International CES tradeshow from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas.

“This fast acting switch can recognize an overvoltage current of as little as 130 volts— compared to the 330 volts that the best-rated MOV based protection offers—which provides ultimate protection for connected equipment against those long lasting and damaging overvoltage surges,” said Kris Lichtscheidl, Senior Product Manager for Power Management products. “In addition, Power Blocker surge protectors can be instantly reset once the surge event is over.”

The switch in the Power Blocker 2 actuates 1,000 times faster than the fuse/MOV technology used in traditional surge protection devices, for increased protection and sensitivity to surges. When a surge is detected, the device’s patented circuit-breaker technology completely disconnects the MOV and connected equipment from the power for the ultimate protection. The unit can be reset by pressing the Instant Reset button to regain surge protection instantly rather than waiting to replace the surge protector.

The Power Blocker 2 is the only resettable surge protector on the market today. It features an enhanced circuit board design, making it the only product to provide a 100 percent guarantee to protect against lightening strikes. In addition, it comes with a connected equipment warranty of one million dollars.

Each unit provides eight child safe outlets and is designed to easily house up to four adapters. The Power Blocker 2 surge protectors feature a built-in cord management system to keep user work areas neat and a six foot power cord with a 45 degree right-angled plug for enhanced usability. Different models are equipped with additional protection for telephone, RJ45, and/or coaxial lines. Pricing on the Power Blocker 2 ranges from $69.99 to $129.99 MSRP, depending on the model.
