Objectif Lune Acquires Atlas Software BV
Objectif Lune, a leader in solutions for the efficient design and high-volume printing of transactional and variable content documents, announced it has acquired Atlas Software BV, developer and marketer of PrintShop Mail Software, an easy-to-use, entry-level tool for variable document design and printing. As a result of the acquisition, the expanded organization is now firmly established as a dominant player in the rapidly developing variable content marketplace. The acquisition also gives Objectif Lune a better strategic position to support a broader range of applications. Industry partners and customers will now gain a stronger resource to help them drive more successful and profitable solutions.
Founded in 1993 in Montreal, Canada, Objectif Lune has continued to experience rapid growth. In 2003, Deloitte & Touche named Objectif Lune to the Technology Fast 500 for the second year in a row, recognizing it as one of the fastest growing technology companies in North America. Objectif Lune solutions focus on software, services and custom applications to enable transactional and variable content output from any PostScript printer. The company’s PlanetPress Software is sold worldwide to an extensive list of clients that includes leading printer manufacturers; corporate users such as 3M, Alphagraphics, BASF, Computer Associates, ESPN, GM Detroit, Teledyne, UPS, Washington Post; and other financial, manufacturing, automotive, government and media organizations.
“We are excited about combining the synergies of our two organizations to achieve far more than we could as separate entities. This is truly an example of one plus one equaling three, as our capabilities have been strategically expanded to meet all transactional and promotional requirements, resulting in more profitable opportunities for our partners.” said Objectif Lune CEO, Didier Gombert. “The overlay of the two organizations is an ideal match, and we are able to quickly move forward as one team.” All customers will continue to receive full support, with the added advantage of access to a complete, single-source offering of integrated promotional, transactional, and workflow products.
Objectif Lune has grown organically 40 to 50 percent every year, and this strategic acquisition allows the company to continue to meet high growth targets, while expanding the product line to give customers more options for their personalization applications. The acquisition creates a deeper reservoir of specialized talent and experienced resources to move the company ahead and better serve the needs of the market. As a result, partners will gain the resources of a stronger organization with deeper product lines and greater resources for future development. The majority of Objectif Lune employees are based in North America, while Atlas Software is mainly represented in Europe. Now with a combined total of 115 employees, the expanded company is solidly entrenched in nearly every global market, and customers and partners will benefit from broader capabilities and support worldwide.
Established in 1989 in The Netherlands, Atlas Software BV is a leading developer of tools to optimize information flow, with an installed base of over 16,000 licenses worldwide. Atlas has partnered with leading players in the printing industry to enhance their digital print capabilities. The company’s flagship product, PrintShop Mail Software, is geared to operations needing an easy-to-use desktop tool for variable content documents. Users gain the ability to use virtually any design program and database format and drive any PostScript print engine and all major RIP technologies. Features such as variable images, instant preview, bar code printing and print automation for web-to-print applications have made PrintShop Mail one of the most popular offerings in its category.
“Atlas Software has always been committed to helping customers achieve higher print communication value through personalization, and now we can work towards that goal from an even stronger position,” said Harry Raaphorst, Managing Director of Atlas Software BV. “Objectif Lune has some of the industry’s strongest transactional expertise and is moving into promotional solutions. Atlas has been very successful with desktop publishing applications in several market segments, and because of our results, customers and partners frequently request an equal solution for transactional printing. Now we can address these requests and achieve our objectives immediately by combining the expertise of our two organizations.”
Mr. Gombert expects company and product convergence to occur gradually, carefully moving into new product cycles and an integrated product line that will include promotional, transactional and workflow solutions. This orderly approach will ensure no disruption to existing relationships, and industry partners will be able to have input into the process in order to optimize the integration.
The PlanetPress suite of products from Objectif Lune enables sophisticated, conditional printing of text and graphics in an open architectural environment without modifications to host software. PlanetPress is the only solution on the market that allows customers to offload heavy print stream traffic from enterprise networks and seamlessly divert it to the printer for faster workflow. As a result of the reduced network traffic, companies achieve greater productivity from their existing processes, while gaining the ability to easily and quickly produce their critical printed documents. The PlanetPress line offers components for enterprise-wide transactional and variable content printing and document distribution, including emailing, archiving and faxing. Customers can dispense with costly, pre-printed forms; automate high volume production; simultaneously deliver electronic formats or fax; and create optimized searchable archives.
