OMD Founder and Modern Business Systems Co-Founder Dies
Mr. Paul R. Pierce, 69, of Panama City Beach, Florida, died Friday evening, July 23, at his home.
Mr. Pierce enjoyed a successful career in the office equipment industry. He began his career in 1960 with the 3M Company as a copier technician and sales representative. In 1965, he co-founded Modern Business Systems, which became one of the largest independent copier dealerships in the United States and spanned seven states. In order to resolve many of the business challenges he encountered with a growing dealership, Mr. Pierce became heavily involved in office automation. The result was the OMD software.
Mr. Pierce founded OMD Corporation in 1984 to design, sell and support the OMD software, mainly concentrating on the office equipment industry and other industries with a requirement for field service. Paul was a visionary and was deeply involved in product development. He never forgot the challenges of a business owner and product design. He always focused on providing top management and improving employee productivity and company profitability. The OMD software remains the standard for dealership automation.
Mr. and Mrs. Pierce retired to Panama City Beach, Florida, in 1993. Mr. Pierce was born September 4, 1934, in Spencer County, Indiana. He was married in 1954, to Mona Barnett, who preceded him in death on October 21, 2003. Paul and Mona Pierce were generous benefactors of the Salvation Army and the Special Learning Center. Paul established OMD Corporation as an ESOP company, in order to provide employees with a financial stake in the company for their retirement. Paul enjoyed boating, fishing and golf.
