Ricoh Group No. 1 in Digital Business Workgroup
Office equipment research firm Dataquest recently listed the Ricoh Group, the Dependable Digital* output company, as the leading provider of the Business Workgroup Category in 2000, which includes digital black and white copiers in segments 2, 3, 4 and 5. The Ricoh Group, consisting of Ricoh, Savin and Gestetner brands, has demonstrated its leadership in these categories - ranging from 21 to 90 pages-per-minute (ppm) - by offering a diverse range of digital imaging products suited for any workgroup environment.
Leading Ricoh's success in the Business Workgroup category is the revolutionary segment 5 AficioTM 850, the fast 85 page-per-minute (ppm) black and white digital imaging system. This product catapulted Ricoh into the number one position in Segment 5 for the year 2000. In addition, Ricoh's segment 6 Aficio 1050, added to Ricoh's Dependable Digital dominance, by providing unparalleled digital image quality at 105 ppm with advanced processing flexibility and seamless network connectivity. "Ricoh is leading the digital revolution by offering comprehensive digital imaging products and support to meet the increasing demand for multifunctionality and seamless connectivity in the business environment," said Jim Ivy, President, Office Products Group, Ricoh Corporation. Ricoh has surpassed both Xerox and Canon, for the fourth consecutive year in this category in addition to exceeding its own record 1999 placement numbers. In addition, Ricoh's strong performance in this category reflects the comparison between Ricoh and the overall growth rate in the industry. According to Dataquest, the growth rate of copiers over the past year only increased 1% for the overall industry, where Ricoh experienced an 8.7% increase in total unit sales for 2000.
These accomplishments are a factor in the recent decision by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to choose Ricoh to be the sole provider of digital copiers, maintenance and related supplies. The ten-year contract, with the potential for up to $200 million, makes Ricoh the "Official Digital Copier Provider of the USPS" and is estimated to save the Postal Service approximately $7.4 million annually. "This incredible growth rate for Ricoh can be attributed to cutting edge technology developments and our ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction," Ivy added. "The combination of these two forces has made Ricoh the simplest, easiest and fastest company to do business with."
