SEM Desktop Grinder Permanently Removes Information Data from CDs
WESTBORO, MA (June 2009) — The DX-CD2™ from Security Engineered Machinery (SEM), securely and permanently removes digital information from compact discs (CDs), including CD-ROMs and writable/re-writable CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and WORM CDs. The portable device (only 5½ lbs. and approx. 4½″ x 9″ x 10″) is 100% effective, making it ideal for medical, financial, educational, and government/military facilities that regularly destroy confidential records.
The DX-CD2 utilizes a patented technology that quietly grinds the information layer off a disc completely in under 19 seconds, with no possibility of forensic recovery. It complies with pertinent HIPAA, FACTA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and Gramm-Leach-Bliley requirements and meets both the NSA/CSS Specification 04-02 for Optical Media Destruction Devices and the NIST SP 800-88 Standard for Optical Disc Destruction. Options include a 100-disc automated feeder and a digital video disc (DVD) splitter attachment.
The unit’s pushbutton operation requires no special training, and replacement of the cutting blade is easy. The DX-CD2 comes standard with two cutting blades (one installed) and two vacuum collection bags (one installed). Full bags can be returned for recycling and disposal.
SEM, the largest direct supplier of document destruction equipment in the United States, not only offers off-the-shelf units but also maintains a full-service engineering department that designs special products, such as the currency destruction systems in use by the Federal Reserve Bank and other central banks. Every American embassy uses SEM equipment. Other areas of expertise include equipment for destroying “off-spec” or returned product for the pharmaceutical, medical device, and food industries and heavy-duty, high-capacity shredders for recycling applications. More than 100 SEM authorized service centers are positioned to serve customers worldwide.
