Sharp and Cryptek Unveil Government-Certified Secure Facsimile Function

Sharp and Cryptek, Inc., a leading provider of network security for protecting high-value government and corporate information assets, today jointly announced the Cryptek CSF-500 Secure Facsimile and Document Communication System. The CSF-500 is the first true multi-function device, or "MFD" - a combination fax machine, printer, copier, and scanner - to include government certified secure facsimile functionality. When combined with Cryptek's Common Criteria certified DiamondTek network security products, it provides secure and encrypted communication capability.

The CSF-500, tested and certified by the U.S. Army's Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) at Fort Huachuca, AZ, is the fastest Secure Facsimile available. Certified to MIL-STD-188-161D and STANAG 5000, the CSF-500 operates in all three formats: Uncompressed, Compressed, and Compressed with Forward Error Correction (FEC), at all data transfer rates: 1.2 kbps to 128 kbps, in both modes: Broadcast and Handshake. The CSF-500 also operates in an Asynchronous transfer mode from 1.2 kbaud to 115.2 kbaud. Compatible with a wide variety of devices, the CSF-500 can interface to STE and STU terminals, as well as KG-84, KY-57, KY-68, MSE, DNVT, DSVT, and SINGARS communication equipment.

In addition to the Secure Facsimile functionality, the CSF-500 MFD contains a Super G3 Fax, a network scanner, a network Laser printer, and a copier function. When operated as a networked MFD, communication is at speeds up to 100 MB per second and the CSF-500 provides a management system to control access to MFD applications. A truly network-aware device, the CSF-500 also allows documents to be E-mailed directly and securely. Taking advantage of an extra-large liquid crystal display as its user interface, the CSF-500 sets a new standard for ease and simplicity during both configuration and use.

When configured with DiamondTek optional security, a networked CSF-500 MFD is intended for secure environments, such as the Department of Defense, the Department of State, the intelligence community, and government contractors. The DiamondTek security features add smart card user authentication, robust Common Criteria-validated firewall support, and FIPS encryption of scanned and printed network files.

The CSF-500 meets government requirements for up to five devices: G3 Fax machine, Printer, Scanner, Copier, as well as a Secure Facsimile. It also offers reporting features that help government and corporate customers maintain compliance with federal laws such as Sarbanes-Oxley, The Financial Modernization (Gramm-Leach-Bliley) Act and HIPAA, among others.

"Companies today need digital devices that meet these federal requirements while protecting mission- and business-critical intellectual property," said Ed McLaughlin, President, Sharp Document Solutions Company of America. "We are committed to providing our customers with industry-leading security solutions and are working closely with Cryptek to offer a product that provides secure document reproduction and distribution."

"There has never been a higher demand on information security than there is today, and Cryptek has met that demand by providing the highest level of protection available on the market," Cryptek President and CEO Daniel R. Abraham said. "In partnership with Sharp, we have developed a product that provides the highest level of security available on the market. Data is secure with the CSF-500."
