Sharp Reports Record-Setting Growth

Sharp Document Solutions Company of America reported record-setting growth for the first half of 2004, with revenue increasing 16 percent over the same period last year, paced by a 246-percent increase in sales of color products. Revenue in Segments 3 and 4 increased 45- and 65-percent respectively. Focusing on quarterly results, overall revenue increased 15 percent in the first quarter and 17 percent in the second quarter.

In terms of marketshare, Sharp also outpaced the industry in a number of key segments, including the mid-volume monochrome laser MFP segments. According to independent data from IDC, an industry analyst firm, Sharp also experienced significant marketshare growth in 2003.

This year, Sharp’s Dragon series of Segment 3 and 4 products received best-in-class recognition from various industry associations. Among the awards are three BERTL’s Best™ Spring 2004 honors, which included “Best Security Solutions” for document security and MFP security features as well as two awards for new color and Dragon-series products.

“The significant growth we’ve achieved in Segments 3-5 and color demonstrates that the products Sharp introduced earlier this year are helping businesses manage document workflow more efficiently and securely,” said Ed McLaughlin, President, Sharp Document Solutions Company of America.

According to McLaughlin, Sharp is supporting its product introductions with innovative training programs. “As a result of these programs, our network of independent dealers is better positioned to identify the needs of their customers and match them to solutions offered by Sharp. More and more dealers are utilizing resources such as MY SHARP to educate their sales representatives and customers on our products, and to conduct solution-oriented product demonstrations and training,” he said.
