silex Network Application to Collect Page Count Information

silex technology america, Inc. announced the availability of MIB-Trak, a network appliance that automatically collects printed page count information and remotely monitors operating conditions of distributed network printers within corporate enterprises.

Designed for digital imaging value added resellers, IT administrators, and printer original equipment manufacturers, MIB-Trak connects directly to a 10/100 Base-TX network and then automatically checks the Management Information Base (MIB) embedded in the printer driver of each networked laser-based printer with internal network connectivity to pull the information in report form.

"Whether you're running a large enterprise, or providing print services on a pay-per-print basis, MIB-Trak automates time consuming processes to gather this critical information ensuring costs and return on investment are maintained," said Keith Sugawara, vice president, silex Network Division. "The automated reporting function speeds invoicing for VARs and alerts administrators of potential issues before they become problems."

A growing trend among digital imaging value added resellers is to follow the long-standing copy machine practice of providing copiers on a cost-per-copy basis. When VARs utilize this model by providing printers on a cost-per-print basis, MIB-Trak shortens their billing cycle and improves customer satisfaction by solving the collection of information problem created by time-consuming and expensive on-site meter reading visits. Instead, MIB-Trak automatically counts printed pages and sends an email report to the VAR.

IT administrators can use MIB-Trak to proactively increase ROI and conduct printing resource planning of its enterprise printers by automatically monitoring usage volume and pattern of each printer, receiving operating status notifications on toner level, errors, low paper, paper jams, and other printer conditions reducing potential down time.

Whether used in a pay-per-print environment, or among IT administrators, MIB-Trak generates reports at preset intervals via email automatically. Whether the interval is set on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, the report can be in plain email format or in a CSV file format for utilization in billing and other backend document management application systems. (May require additional integration.)

silex has also made MIB-Trak available to printer original equipment manufacturers so they can bundle it with their full line of printer products, or resell it directly to their own customers.
