Tech Talk Celebrates 10,000th Message
Farmingdale, NJ—Problems with the lights on the 4L laser printer were the impetus behind the 10,000th message posted on Tech Talk, the online printer repair message board launched four years ago by Depot America, Inc. Over 1,000 technicians regularly visit Tech Talk printer repair message board where they can search through archived messages to find solutions, reply when they have an answer to a posted problem, or post messages asking for help.
“Although there are other message boards, ours is the only one that has such a high level of participation and longevity,” noted Will DeMuth, Depot America’s Product Marketing Manager. “The popularity of Tech Talk has strengthened Depot America’s position as a leading source for quality, technical and product information. Sometimes we get messages from competitors who do not realize that this board is mediated by Depot America. “I say ‘mediated’ because the board really belongs to the online community that formed around it. Unlike other boards, ours is nonproprietary. Anyone can use it. We monitor it for inappropriate language and messages that contain advertisements or self promotion.”
Technicians can get multiple opinions, and decide for themselves what works and what doesn’t. When a technician posts a question, he or she will get the replies sent directly to their email address, so they won’t need to revisit the message board. In addition, the reply is also posted and archived on the board for fast, easy reference. “The majority of the Tech Talk community possesses intermediate to high expertise, and they like to share what they know with others,” said DeMuth. “It’s like a virtual break room with technicians from all over the world talking shop.”
