The Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation Funds Camp Scholarships for Children with Arthritis
MADISON, WI (August 2008) – The Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation donated $5,000 to the Wisconsin Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation located in West Allis, Wis., on August 13. The donation will fund more than five full scholarships to the Foundation’s unique juvenile arthritis camp called Camp M.A.S.H. (Make Arthritis Stop Hurting).
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 5,400 children in Wisconsin have been diagnosed with arthritis. Camp M.A.S.H. provides a place for children ages nine to 17 to learn to cope with their disease and begin to understand the challenges of living with arthritis and its side effects. Experienced health professionals and recreational staff work together to develop the camp program, placing an emphasis on activities campers may not otherwise experience. In 2007, 85 children attended camp on full or partial scholarships.
“The donation from the Gordon Flesch Company will enable Camp M.A.S.H. to offer a special educational growth experience for children and teens affected by this painful disease,” said Judy Haugsland, president and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation’s Wisconsin Chapter.
Remaining true to the company vision to “serve the communities where we work and live,” the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation, Inc. has donated more than $800,000 to various charities and organizations in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin since its inception in 2002. Each year, grants totaling $100,000 are awarded throughout the communities where the Gordon Flesch Company does business.
“The creation of the Charitable Foundation formalized a spirit of generosity that has been part of the Gordon Flesch Company culture since the beginning,” said Ann Myers, president of the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation. “It is a reflection of the company’s awareness that we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
