University of California Signs Five-Year, Multimillion-Dollar Contract with Xerox

The University of California has selected Xerox Corporation as one of its preferred vendors to fulfill the document needs of its 10 statewide campuses, five medical centers and three national laboratories.

The five-year contract could involve nearly 3,000 Xerox digital copiers and office multifunction systems ordered over time.

The new Xerox contract is designed to provide the University of California system with consistent equipment across campus locations and help students, faculty and staff create and handle documents more efficiently.

"Since the University of California system includes a large staff of healthcare workers, research scientists, educators, administrators and students, we needed to establish an alliance that could meet the wide-ranging technology and support needs for the university," said Haggai Hisgilov, executive director of strategic sourcing for the University of California system. "Throughout our evaluation process, Xerox's customer focus, products and services proved to offer the maximum value in meeting the university's needs."

"Xerox offers the most extensive line of office products in the industry, 95 percent of which have been released within the last two years," said Tim Williams, president, Xerox Office Group. "Our ability to meet the needs of the wide variety of departments, workgroups and environments within the University of California stems from our commitment to keeping our product line fresh and delivering the latest features and capabilities for office workers as well as IT staff."

One of the largest state university systems in the United States, the University of California has 208,860 students and 164,813 faculty and staff. The university has grown to 10 campuses: Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Santa Barbara.

The UC system manages three U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories - the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley; the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore; and the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, N.M. The UC system also operates five medical centers - located in Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco - that constitute one of the largest healthcare systems in the State of California.

Under the terms of the agreement, each location in the University of California system can choose from a variety of Xerox CopyCentre™ digital copiers, WorkCentre™ copier-printers and WorkCentre™ Pro advanced multifunction systems. These systems range in speeds from 20 to 90 pages per minute and offer the job-accounting and security features that education and healthcare businesses require, along with features that help general office workers be most productive.
