Xerox Highlights Progress in Environmental Sustainability, Community Outreach in Annual Report
Norwalk, CT (November 10, 2008)- Xerox Corporation, today released its 2008 Report on Global Citizenship detailing the principles, policies and practices that have led Xerox's decades-long commitment to corporate social responsibility. Milestones range from the 40th year of support for employees that volunteer in science classrooms to a 21 percent worldwide reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2002, to accolades for programs including supplier diversity, ethical operations and innovation.
Included in the report are sections and key metrics devoted to governance and ethics, customer privacy and satisfaction, employee diversity and development, environmental initiatives, corporate donations and volunteerism, and more.
In the report's letter to stakeholders, Xerox chairman and chief executive officer Anne Mulcahy wrote, "One of the hallmarks of our citizenship efforts at Xerox is that they are strategic, enduring and substantive. We believe we've been pioneers in the field of corporate citizenship and have established quite a record. But if you think we're satisfied, think again. Xerox people are keenly aware that for those to whom much has been given, much is expected. We don't shrink from these expectations; we embrace them."
Among the accomplishments and key metrics in the 2008 report:
Xerox made progress in meeting environmental sustainability goals, particularly in the areas of climate protection and development of a sustainable paper cycle. The company is well on the way to achieving a 25 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2012.
As one of the largest distributors of paper for office printers and copiers, Xerox works toward a sustainable paper cycle. The Company earned "chain of custody" certification from both the Forest Stewardship Council and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification. These certifications confirm that Xerox paper products carrying the FSC or PEFC logo have been manufactured using raw materials harvested from certified sources, controlled wood sources or post-consumer reclaimed sources. FSC- and PEFC-certified products can be tracked from harvest through distribution. In addition, Xerox has deployed stringent paper sourcing guidelines to suppliers. About 90 percent of Xerox paper suppliers meet these guidelines, and the company is working with suppliers to reach 100 percent.
Xerox is focused on delivering the best possible customer experience. That includes preventing unauthorized use of customer information, maintaining comprehensive safety data about Xerox products and the materials contained in them, designing accessible products and developing security features that help customers keep their networks secure.
