Large and small businesses alike, as well as government agencies and other institutions, have been outsourcing a portion or all of their information technology (IT) work for some time. If there is a service you can provide get the word out.  More and more, companies want to concentrate on their core business and streamline efforts towards purely profitable endeavors.  That leaves us, as dealers to pick up the slack. Services that are typically outsourced include anything requiring technology to access or move information, from maintaining computer equipment to managing the integration between radically different systems.

Businesses outsource some or all of their IT work when they need a technology group with the resources to keep their systems functioning at peak levels. The cost for small businesses to maintain a full-time in-house IT staff is usually prohibitive. Normally there just isn’t enough work on a day-to-day basis to justify the cost. And while mid- to large-size companies typically have their own in-house IT group, they often find it advisable to outsource IT work that requires a specialized skill set which is only needed periodically or when the in-house group may be temporarily overloaded.

The need to protect information has never been greater. Security is a critical area of concern for all businesses regardless of size. Make sure that your company offers the professional expertise  needed to prevent unauthorized access to its information, and to guard against catastrophic or accidental loss of information. The loss of personal data for thousands of members of the U.S. military by the Veteran’s Administration is a glaring case in point.

Small companies typically outsource IT work because of the rapid growth of information technology in critical areas such as accounting. Marketing activities, especially those that require inside-outside access and Internet and email connectivity are also areas where outsourcing expertise is frequently needed.

Large companies frequently outsource IT work when making enhancements to infrastructure and moving data. For example, businesses project and plan for their IT outsourcing needs when opening a new branch, upgrading interoffice or inter-branch communications or implementing a new system. These types of projects temporarily increase a company’s IT needs until in-house staff can handle everything on their own. Specialty support may be needed when something arises that is outside the skill set of a company’s in-house IT group. This can include hardware, software or communication issues. Make sure to leave a detailed menu of services as well as conveying your ability to tailor solutions specifically for individual businesses.
